Training & Supervision

Neurodevelopmental and trauma-informed training
Advances in knowledge about brain function is continuing to form the basis for practice with children and young people who have experienced abuse and violence. It includes an understanding of normative brain and body development and the subsequent effect of abuse-related trauma on the brain architecture and physiological functioning of children and young people.

Training sessions will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to respond to the needs of children and young people affected by the cumulative developmental and neurobiological harm caused by abuse and violence.  It also provides the basis for participants to learn how to implement creative,  evidence-based responses to traumatized children, young people and their carers or family.

Please contact CNS for further information.

Tuning in to Kids
Dr Yasmin Baliz is a certified Tuning in to Kids facilitator. Tuning in to Kids is a parenting program that helps parents to understand their child’s big emotions, such as anger, sadness and anxiety, and make their relationship with their child stronger. Parents learn new ways to parent, in particular how to recognize, understand and respond to their children’s emotions. This approach helps the child to manage their own emotions.

The program helps parents to:
  • understand the relationship between their children’s emotions and their behaviour
  • support their children to manage strong emotions and deal with conflict
  • use their children’s emotional experiences as an opportunity for closeness and teaching
  • gain awareness and learn to regulate their own emotions
  • develop skills to assist children to verbally label their emotions
  • develop skills to assist children in problem solving
  • guide children’s behaviour with appropriate limits.

Tuning in to Kids is suitable for parents with children aged between three and 12 years of age. Group sessions are run three times a year. Please contact CNS for further information.
